Organisers and local dignitaries proud of Sierra Nevada 2017 success

The organisers of Sierra Nevada 2017 have every right to feel proud, after the closing ceremony of the Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championship, for all the hard work and effort realised. The image of the day, Cetursa executive María José López lifted onto the shoulders of Francisco Javier Fernández, Junta de Andalucía, and May Peus, president of the Royal Spanish Winter Sports Federation.

Surrounded by volunteers carrying flags of all the competing countries, it was also López who provided one of the first speeches on behalf of the Organisation Committee, proud of the work everyone has provided, she recognised «this is a great ski and snowboard family, which has gained its recognition sportingly and organisationally».

Fernández next, highlighting «this ski and snowboard resort at Sierra Nevada is a symbol of Andalusia, showcasing quality tourism via the platform of elite sport.»

FIS executive, Eduardo Roldán, enthused, «this is a special day. The emotion, pride, honour, epicness, these are sentiments felt and the epitome of the success, with athletes from 50 countries and five continents shining thanks to the organisational excellence of this resort at Sierra Nevada.»

Mayor of Granada Francisco Cuenca was also present, commenting that the World Championships were an example of «quality, excellence and prestige».
